Silk Road Music is an ongoing project using the “Silk Road” theme to explore music & western spirit. Silk Road Music is an independent group with a difference. Silk Road Music is Alberta based. Silk Road Music originally catered to cowboy & western spirit and specialized in cowboy spirit & western roots music with a world flavour. However, over the years we have expanded and to incorporate world music into the spirit of the west all with an Alberta flavour.

August 1, 2014Bob Brozman – March 1954 – April 2013
April 25, 2013Bob Brozman, steel-guitar innovator and ethnomusicologist was from Santa Cruz, CA died today at home. He got his start playing on the streets of Santa Cruz. He was 59. Bob Brozman was a legend in the world of blues and roots music. He integrated styles from all around the world into his music. Bob Brozman was one of Santa Cruz’s most beloved musical figures. His bold playing style was unmistakable, and his banter with the audience at his live shows gave him the opportunity not just to entertain with his sharp wit, but also challenge core assumptions about the function of rhythm and sound. He will be missed. We thank him for his gift of music.

February 22, 2013Supporting Folk Odyssey on WUMB
February 1, 2013Folk Odyssey is a weekly aural voyage through the musical cultures of the world, sometimes concentrating on folk styles, at others listening to contemporary currents. Through this music the listener is connected to the traditions that underlie local customs in every part of the world. We are also connected to the ever-evolving contemporary music around the world. Today a cross-fertilization of styles and a renewed respect for ancient forms are coming together in collaborations among musicians, and the results are astonishing and delightful! You can hear Folk Odyssey on Sunday afternoons on WUMB Boston Public Radio.
